This week the children continued their work investigating non-fiction by exploring what is the same and different in their topic club books. Working together they recorded their club name and the titles of the books they were referencing. Readers can learn more about a topic and begin answering some of their questions by comparing and contrasting information in their non-fiction books.
I modeled on large chart paper, providing a visual of the same paper that they would be recording their information and findings on. This was challenging work and pushed the Kindergarteners to work together in a different kind of way. They had to make a plan, decide who would record, share and debate the information in their books. These challenges help avid readers grow!
Their ongoing work in their non-fiction topic clubs has been rich with exploration and discovery.
We needed a home for their work. During our reading workshop the children worked in their topic clubs to design and decorate a front cover for new topic club journals!
I've glued their previous exit tickets and recordings in these journals and we will continue to work in them for the remainder of the year.
